Lestat's violin

Queen of the dammed - Lestat's violin

Queen of the Dammed – Lestat’s violin/ on the beach

This scene was very iconic when I first saw it at the tender age of 11 (I think), the scene whilst growing up still held meaning the idea of not being told that you have to hide away and cannot find the attention or admiration you want was quite a thing for a young impressionable child, but also showed the danger of arrogance.

"My senses run amok, like a newborn child. And as for my new powers, I was beside myself with the
pleasure of it all" - Lestat

In the scene we have Marius and (the vampire) Lestat, walking across a beach as Marius (lestat’s mentor) is teaching him about the new found life he has gifted lestat, not only is the context and how it relates to the lestat not only vital but it also help convey the meaning of otherness the idea that they stick to the shadows away from the clusters of people dotted around the beach, and as marius speaks about not being able to interact with them kind of separates them from the women and man.

"But why must we hide, Marius?" - Lestat

It is probably the idea that I sympathize with Lestat who only wants to be known and doesn’t want to hide is why I adore this scene, because it resonates on a psychological scale that we as people all want to be known, though it also doesn’t help that it quickly teaches us that maybe its probably best for a vampire not to interact so sociably with normal people.

"So I can never be known?" - Lestat

The soundtrack is absolutely stunning and the duet on the
violin I have always wanted to learn, it has become some sort of a little bit
of a boost and the rhythm is something that I have never seemed to forget
always being able to hum along quietly, but with the violin’s and the music which
I feel represents the time so too does the costumes which creates a whole other
world and immerses the audience.

All in all I love the scene and through simplicity, it is so important so we the audience can understand who the characters are and perhapse what they represent, the scene also helps humanise these two vampires and shows a vulnerability to them that doesn’t involve stake’s or garlic.
