maps and journeys further research images

all this research was to help provide creative thinking and contemplate different techniques as well as maybe encouraging new ideas if i was to get stuck while making the piece

maps and journeys sound

research for sound

assassins creed 4 black flag ost main theme -

i wanted quite a sea like tune with the guitar and found the sound track really helped spark ideas even if it is more light hearted and more inspiring

the sound track to dismaland seemed to have actually subconsciously affect how i was thinking in terms of space and sound

finally this song i think was the one song i had been humming to while i made my own and i can see alot of simularities now that i remembered this song, perhaps this song would of been easier to use, but now i wanted to make it all my own so this helped inspire the tempo as well as some of the rythem

tomorrow by bensound

all other research was listening to similar stuff but i feel that these three had the most beneficial to the creative progress.

looking at the idea i wanted to the with the sailing them and at the same time i wanted the music to be slightly so i experimented with the sounds as well but ideally i wanted it to be eerie enough with a subtle heaviness to the piece and just a layer of wrongness to help push the ambiance of the moving image.

with that looking at the inner turmoil and yet the beautiful environment i decided  wanted quite relaxing music but i wanted it to play slightly out of time and slightly out of tune that would create the desired effect

i used a electric and base guitar and played them differently this including different techniques such as harmonics and popping the strings on both as well as tapping the body of the base to produce a low humming sound. while experimenting i learnt that i could plug the guitar straight into the computer using a audio jack required to play along to rocksmith ( a guitar hero like game where you play with an actual guitar) in addition to that i could plug an amp into the computer and use a normal audio jack to connect the guitar into the amp.

the babies

so i could record music such as

guitar ====> computer (audition)

or

guitar ====> Amp ====> computer (audition)

therefore if i had a loop pedal or something of that kind i could in theory have even wider range of controls while trying to create the music while using the amp can give me controls over treble, bass, volume the loop pedal could also capture a tune and repeated over and over again to play to which could of helped to create a better range of sounds, and is something i would like to experiment more in my own time .

i then reassembled the recorded sounds to remix the music and i think i really like it and although sound is definitely not my strongest point i have tried my best and feel like i have achieved something for my efforts and feel i do need definitely need to read up on it more and better producing techniques, though it works with the film, even though it was described to me as "if a child had decided to beat an out of tune guitar".

maps and journeys making

to make this project i decided to try and make it easy for my self and make a good work flow for my self, thinking about this i thought that doing so would mean that if any problems happened down the line then i would simply have to edit the original asset so that this would involve linking the programs together and getting it ready to be pushed into the next one.

so all assets  in order of being made

but i also had a few ideas thanks to the psychoanalysis and a few other things i was looking at because the theme of inner critical thinking is quite close to depression as well as some psychology i also included a hidden image that can clearly be seen that looks like the brain during a MRI scan as well as looking like a Rorschach test

test background

gradient
clouds
stars
mountain range
water
background
back ground v2
after preparing all of these stills and getting them to the correct film size everything gets brought into after effects, where the majority of work was animating all the pieces to create one surreal world the heaest effects came down to creating the water and animating the boat where actully the most complex as i knew i had many parts to this strange projection based puzzle that i wanted all the peices to correctly fit as well as not over working the pc till it explodes.

water was a turbulent displacement which just evolved after time and trying to get the complexity right  as to make it appear that the is reflecting onto the waters surface

this little bit of code would not work the code is actually just for the object to move vertically with out moving side to side where as wiggle(n,n) would of done that however at the same time, for some reason it would not work i had to sit and relearn this expression because it wouldn't work, turns out there should be 4 numbers after the expression to get the best use out of the code so after reworking it till it finally after a lot of scratching my head i actually worked it out, go me

then i exported brought it all over to premier for assembly

maps and journeys resear + ideas + final idea

i  original had 3 ideas

firstly - the first step
- a series of photos all around the idea of taking the first step
each image would have a different kinda transport but take place in increadibly fantiscal worlds that make this journey they they were going on seem larger then life.

pros
- be able to show technical skills in photoshop
-being able to create these whimsical worlds quite easily using my own collection of stock photos or i could go out and capture the photos i need to create these images

cons
-large work load and as each image would be large any mistakes would become easily noticable which is not a extreme con but i felt that doing 1 good text would be better then doing 5 good texts
- depending on what the images i need are it could be quite time consuming of getting those images however then the whole trying to get the images could be quite the comedic and insensitive projects in itself

secondly - at lands end

this idea was the idea of going from lands end up north and going on an adventure however time wont allow me to this was origianlly about traveling to hammle Deutschland and get pictures of the places where my mother grew up  but this time there is no money, no time and no passport

also its very difficult to find decent pictures of hammle that shows the places that i been

finally - tbd (to be decided)

finally  my last idea i was gonna do on a psychological idea called the idea of critical inner voice, and the idea is to be visually surreal while tackling the idea of how to achieve while your own head is telling you you wont.

to be perfectly clear this not depression

critical inner voice
-it is similar to bernes idea of the critical parent
 - it is a subpersonality that tells the person negative and even destructive ideas, promoting thoughts of low self esteme and worthlessness
research and theory
http://www.psychalive.org/i-hate-myself/ accessed 09/10/2015
although further research on psychology (as i only have a as worth of communication and culture of psychological knowledge about this and further understand which i cant grasp yet ) is needed for this to be as detailed as it is possible to be the idea as a technical spectacle is just to large for my self to produce by myself and maybe should be done another time,

reasons why it would be to difficult would be that i would have to create a set and then 3d map a whole world around the set

too few of people to achieve this ambitions ghoul

so i had to simplify the idea and tackled the idea of okay what would an animator do and thinking how have people created some amazing sets that would be to big to make that doesn't involve alot of creating out of 3d because i have little to know idea how i would start a task

i started to look at what i wanted it to look like and the technical knowledge i need for what i wanted and what i wanted was a boat floating in a surreal environment and perhaps space, this was the effect i wanted and the idea of reality was still ever present i want the character to have a journey in his mind so to speak

Synopsis

a man journeys though a strange world trying to find out where he is and why he is there,

how im going to make it

using puppetry i will use a green screen for the character to stand in front of so i can super impose the character onto a toy boat and use parallaxing to create the idea of depth

my learning agreement

i agree to wok hard and provide all of my time and energy into producing a incredible piece of art/ film that i am proud of
i aim to use new techniques and document all my tests and experiments and what they meant for the final outcome
i strive to be punctual with all deadline personal or to other class mates
i want to create all resources and stock photos from scratch for the purpose of this project including sound
and i agree that it will be so well produced no one will ever remember the horror of my first film and rosie will be showing it to new students for years to come ..... hopefully

maps and journeys research part 1

projection ideas
though i like the idea of projection i don't really feel that the idea i have in my head will involve anything to do with projection onto an item or structure apart from a wall in a gallery i feel if i go with the idea in my head i will be look more at a  instillation however i found a few projections that gave me ideas for new projects to try my hand at ,

ZonoraPoint ZPlus - Face Projection Mapping

projections in the forest
https://vimeo.com/115082758
projection onto paper statue
https://vimeo.com/46062376
Entropy Audiovisual Installation - Making Of

artist who deals with instillations - bill balaskis

i chose bills work because when we where told about the instillations first thing i thought was of bills work because of just how its laid out and the meanings behind it which with my idea (no spoilers just yet) it seemed like a good place to start and go from there specifically the first piece below is where i got my idea using something in the for ground to enhance the background and vice versa is what i was looking at to try to create a double meaning  .

chris milk

firstly i saw this peice before seeing it in the power point which makes me happy that i know a little about this which is great

and i like this project however i feel this level of interativity would be difficult to learn in such a short space of time as well as my own fear of programming since computing as (ae expressions dont count because that has things like wobble)

however the personal conitations with this piece is fantastic the only thing i didt like about the piece is the bottom half of the people interacting when they lost their legs i felt the magic lessened a slight bit however i love this piece i would never be able to do this without collaborations so when i try to peruse something like this im counting on some of you guys i will do the wings and grab coffe you guys get it working.

adobe muse

so upon getting the adobe creative cloud i started laying with adobe muse just to get to grips with it so this is what i made, i followed a few tutorials on linda.com and tried to learn how to make a web page. i found that muse was a lot easier to use and still gave me options that made it feel like Photoshop however it was not the most powerful software unlike Dreamweaver which is much more powerful and i prefer the easy to use action however understanding more technical assets would most likely have to be imported from dream weaver

editing round upexample conceputal art 9/9/2015

these edits where not done all today

double exposures

ive never been very good at getting this to work so i decided to learn how to do a double exposure and finding out the first image needs to be a silhouette was the secret why id didn't work very well, therefore prior planing was all i needed to do take in mind and how the image would be overlayed with the second image.

league of legends

example conceptual art

this was meant to be more fun and tried to get the colours to match up from the actual game using conceptual art and in game resources to get similar colours to work, to get miss fortune (Paige)
out of London and back in to the summoners rift.
